New Short-Term Training at »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵ Prepares Workforce for Manufacturing Careers

»Æ¹ÏÊÓƵ will launch a new microcredential this fall offering a series of short-term courses that train students for careers in advanced manufacturing.

Starting with a Workplace Communications class in September, the new Machining Fundamentals Microcredential offers five courses to prepare students for entry-level positions. Courses emphasize trade skills of machining and CNC technologies, with hands-on learning and practical training from professionals with decades of advanced manufacturing experience.

Earning the microcredential certifies a student’s training and skillset for potential employers, making it a valuable career step, noted Emily Cameron, »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵ’s Director of Community Education and Workforce Development.

“The Machining Fundamentals Microcredential is an innovative new option for students that offers them a quick pathway to access the training they need to start or advance their manufacturing career,” said Cameron. “By completing courses taught by industry professionals, students will have the fundamental training to find entry-level positions in our region’s growing manufacturing industry.”

Skills taught in the courses include general trade math, reading machining blueprints, set-up and operating machining systems, precision industrial measuring techniques, and the basics of machine tool maintenance.

The five courses include online components, as well as an in-person class schedule at the Auburn Campus on the following dates:

  • Workplace Communications: Mondays and Wednesdays from Sept. 9 to Sept. 18;
  • Problem Solving: Mondays and Wednesdays from Sept. 23 to Oct. 2;
