Provost and Vice-President for Academic Affairs

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

DEPARTMENT:      Academic Affairs

APPOINTMENT:    12 Month, Executive Staff

REPORTS TO:         President

The Provost and Vice-President for Academic Affairs, the chief academic officer, provides strategic leadership in the planning, development, implementation, and assessment of educational offerings, academic programs, and student learning outcomes; presides over the College in the President’s absence; stewards the recruitment, retention, and professional development of faculty; fosters excellence in teaching, advising, and service; aligns academic affairs policies with the College mission and strategic plan; and, works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and institutional partners about matters related to student engagement, retention, and completion. 

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Works closely with the other members of leadership to support the holistic needs of students, and institutional priorities.
  2. Supervises and provides academic leadership for the Division Chairs and other Academic Affairs leaders.
  3. Directs development and implementation of strategic and operational plans for Academic Affairs that support the College vision and mission
  4. Identifies and recommends initiatives, policies, and procedures to ensure professional standards of operations
  5. Oversees assessment and accountability activities in Academic Affairs
  6. Ensures compliance with all academic matters related to the State University of New York, New York State Education Department, and regional and program accreditations
  7. Evaluates and recommends faculty and staff in Academic Affairs for hire, promotion, reassignment, and retention as well as supporting their opportunities and activities for professional development
  8. Coordinates development and submission of the Academic Affairs budgets and assists in preparation of the College budget.
  9. Serve as a member of the Senior Staff, College committees, including task forces and councils as assigned.
  10. Serves as a primary advisor to the President, particularly about matters pertaining to Academic Affairs
  11. Performs other duties as assigned by the President

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Earned doctorate in an academic or professional field preferred; will consider an equivalent combination of master’s degree and related professional experience.
  • Five years of relevant, progressively responsible administrative and leadership experience in post-secondary education. Teaching experience at the college level preferred.
  • Commitment to a student-centered learning environment and student success
  • Positive organizational, interpersonal, and communications skills, with the ability to work effectively in the current organizational structure of division deans, directors, and chairs
  • Ability to working collaboratively and successfully, using a team approach to problem-solving and decision-making
  • Knowledge of program development and outcomes assessment
  • Experience working with state and regional accrediting agencies
  • Functional understanding of the educational and administrative uses of computer technology, with preference desired for the Banner system
  • Personal qualities of creativity, innovation, and high energy in an environment that is fast-paced, multi-tasking, entrepreneurial, and solutions-oriented
  • Outstanding oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience collaborating effectively with all College stakeholders, including board members, school districts, government, community, students, faculty, staff, and public.

COMPENSATION:

$125,000-$144,000. Salary dependent on qualifications and experience.
